Hope Haven Inc

A Charlotte, North Carolina based nonprofit providing a foundation of recovery for individuals and families impacted by substance use disorder

Strategy + Creative / Design

The Project Mayon team produced a shortlist of names and taglines that would clearly convey the intent of this new space. After two rounds of refinement, we landed on a winner:

The Forum at Hope Haven.
Community. Connection. Collaboration.

A forum is defined as “a place, meeting, or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged,” a simple and powerful term that fit the vision perfectly. We wanted to ensure the connection to Hope Haven was clear, while still letting the new space stand on its own. Our tagline further clarified what someone could expect to find at The Forum. And the logo built on HHI’s existing logo while conveying a communal space for all.

The Ask

Hope Haven came to us with an interesting challenge—they had a large meeting space at their facility that had fallen into disrepair. They wanted to renovate it and use it as a training center where all front-line nonprofit workers in the community could share knowledge, attend joint trainings, and network in order to more effectively treat those in need. No more siloes!

The challenge for Project Mayon was to come up with a name for this never-before-seen type of offering, and branding / messaging to help Hope Haven clearly convey the new offering to the Charlotte community.

The Results

After delivering final files and brand / logo guidelines for usage across all marketing touchpoints, it was time for the Forum to come to life! Thanks to a generous grant by Lowes Home Improvement, The Forum quickly took shape with the new name, logo, and tagline front and center—even showing up on a feature story aired on HGTV’s Build it Forward.

Since opening in April 2023, The Forum has hosted 51 training classes with over 800 attendees from peer agencies all over the city. Not only is HHI better equipped to deliver services, but training together has helped form strong inter-agency relationships and collaborations that benefit everyone.

“When this project was just an idea, Project Mayon came alongside to help us clarify our vision and create a logo and tagline that perfectly represents the work we are doing. When it comes to technology and marketing, we usually sacrifice quality by doing things ourselves to save money. This pro bono help gave us access to the best people in the business -- for free! We are forever grateful for their professional help in launching our new program.”
